Mr. Bethel was born July 1st, 1961 in New Providence to Wilshire Z and Yvette V (nee Bain) Bethel. He attended Queen’s College School, Nassau; Wilton House; Yateley Manor, UK; St. Andrew’s School, Nassau; Lester B Pearson College of The Pacific (United World College), Canada (International Baccalaureate). He graduated from the London School of Economics, (University of London) and received (LLB (Hons.)) and also attended Holborn Law Tutors, London, England (CLE). Mr. Bethel is a Member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn and was called to Bar of England and Wales on the 25th July, 1985 and called to The Bahamas Bar on the 27th September, 1985. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel on 9th January, 2015. He currently serves as the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs of The Bahamas; and also holds a Parliamentary Office as Leader of Government Business in the Senate. Mr. Bethel has held several Public Offices including: Chairman of BAIC, 1995-1997; Minister of State for Economic Affairs, 1997-1999;Minister of Economic Development, 2000-2001; Attorney General, 2001-02 and Minister of Education, Youth Sports & Culture, 2007-2009. He has also held Parliamentary Offices including: Member of Parliament for Holy Cross, 1992-2002; Opposition Senator, 2005-2007; Member of Parliament for Sea Breeze, 2007-2012 and Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, 2014-2017. Mr. Bethel is married to the former Lisa Marie Foulkes and has four children. His interests include Chess, Japanese Chess, reading walking and debating.
